Before enrolling under an umbrella school you need to do your homework! Are they a legitimate umbrella school? According to the state requirements a private school has requirements - including listing themselves as a corporation. They can be for-profit or not for profit. Here is a link where you can search to see if a homeschool has registered with the Division of Corporations (the first step to being a legal organization): www.sunbiz.org/corinam.htmlThey will also be listed in the DOE's site of private schools: www.floridaschoolchoice.org/Information/directory/schoolreport.asp If your school is NOT listed under these sites - ask them why. "Private schools in Florida are not licensed, approved, accredited, or regulated by the State Board of Education or the local (school district) education agency. Issues related to a school's policies, courses, credits, transcripts, and accreditations are best resolved with professional assistance from other successfully established private schools that are similar in purpose, grade levels, and students."
