Okay it is almost time to start planning for 2008. I want to have one event each month. Things like Cultural Appreciation day would be ideal for months that have no 'real' holidays . . . but first I want to figure out what 'real' holidays there are. . .
Here is what I have so far. What sounds like a good idea for an event? What am I missing that would be a good idea for an event?
Jan- Celebrate Creativity Feb- Presidents Day/Valentines Day [glow=red,2,300]Mar- Dr. Suess[/glow] [glow=red,2,300]Apr- Earth Day[/glow] [glow=red,2,300]May- May Day Festival[/glow] June- Father's Day/Summer Begins July- Independence Day Aug- Sep- Labor Day/Fall Begins [glow=red,2,300]Oct- Cultural Appreciation Day [/glow] [glow=red,2,300]Nov- Veteran's Day[/glow] Dec- Holidays/Winter Begins

Let's see... I'm assuming more conventional holidays? I'm sure there are more obscure things we could find with some digging...
January has Epiphany (maybe too religious for a sponsored event), Martin Luther King's Birthday...
Can't think of anything for August, either... Midsummer, maybe? Not sure.

I am looking for something that can rather easily be turned into an event. . . for example a Fall Fest - where maybe we all learn about leaves, or do a leaf project, or I dunno - throw acorns at each other? LOL. I know - I am being silly. INSPIRE me! Haaa!

I think August is too early for acorns... at least down here... our acorns are just now showing up. So we'll have to throw something else! I'll keep thinking!

Maybe "dog days of summer?" Could include dogs and other pets - cats, birds, reptiles, anything else? Could share information like type of care needed (food, housing, etc), history of animal as pet, why pets are important to families... Just a thought!

Most folks who celebrate midsummer as a holiday will be doing so in JUNE, not August! Let's see... I'm assuming more conventional holidays? I'm sure there are more obscure things we could find with some digging... January has Epiphany (maybe too religious for a sponsored event), Martin Luther King's Birthday... Oh, found something for August... not a formal holiday, but...
On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment (Women's right to vote) was ratified.

Found another one for August...
August 6 is Peace Day - begun in Japan as a commemoration of the bombing of Hiroshima, but transformed into a day to wish for world peace.

Both are great ideas. . .
Due to lack of participation though - I haven't done anything this summer. Of course you are all welcome to still do things and I'll advertise it.
